Mt. Kailash & Lake Mansarovar Yatra

Situated in the far remote lands of Tibet Autonomous Region, Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar carry the highest spiritual value in Hindu, Jain and Buddhist religions, Every year a large number of pilgrims and adventure seekers visit this place from almost every corner of the world. Popularly known as Kailash Mansarovar Yatra this sojour starts during the last week of April every year and conntinues till the middle of October month, almost. For the last over 15 years, I am organising travel to Kailash Mansarovar and I feel blessed while guiding and instructing the travellers for a safe and memorable journey to this holy land.

Tentative Schedule

  • Day 01 : Arrive Kathmandu

    Arrive Kathmandu International airport to join our fixed departure group tour to Kailash Mansarovar. All travellers coming for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra from USA, Canada, UK, Australia, India and all other countries will be staying in the same hotel. Travellers from India will get their Chinese visa done in India before they reach Nepal. On the other hand all non Indian passport holders irrepective to their nationlity, coming to Nepal for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra from USA, Canada, Australia, UK, India and any other country will require to come to Nepal in advance as their passports will be submitted with Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu to obtain China entry visa for visiting Kailash Mansarovar. The Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu takes minimum two working days to grant them the visa. Therefore, the non Indian passport holders will be picked today from their respective hotels to join the group for yatra.

  • Day 02 : Temple Tour & Fly to Nepalgunj

    In the morning the Company guide will take the group on a half day sightseeing trip of Kathmandu. The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra will begin with a holy darshan of Lord Shiva at the world famous 'Pashupatinath Temple'. One may ask the guide to orgaise for Rudrabhishek in the temple for which extra charges are to be paid by the travellers. Followed by darshan of Lord Pashupatinath and Nandi we head to Jal Narayan Vishnnu Temple. This is the only temple in the world where Lord Vishnu is found in sleeping position. Also visit Gueshwari Mata temple before you come back to your hotel. Later board your flight to Nepalgunj. This small city of Nepalgunj is situated near India-epal border and is easily accesible by road from Luckonw, India. Indian travellers taking this helicopter route to visit Kailash Mansarovar can also enter from Lucknow to join the other group members flying in from Kathmandu side today. In the evening join the trip briefing and introductio session organised by the Company managers and Kailash Yatra guides. Night stay will be in the hotel at Nepalgunj.

  • Day 03 : Fly to Simikot

    This day is very crucial for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra sojourn as today the group will proceed further to Simikot through regular flight from Nepalgunj. The 45 minutes domestic flight in Nepal from Nepalgunj to Simikot is a very important part of Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. Since this flight is completely weather dependent it plays a vital role in onward ad retur journey. Such delays are very common and sometimes may lead to disappointmets or frustratios also. It is advisable to follow the istructions of your tour guide and stay calm if such upleasant situation occurs.

    In the morning head to Nepalguj airport to board your flight to Simikot. The tiny village os Simikot is popular for its airport serving Humla District in Nepal. Simikot is also known as the gateway in Nepal side for entering into Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar. On arrival at Simikot rest in your guesthouse/hotel while ejoying delicious Nepalese food.

  • Day 04 : Fly to Hilsa, Drive to Taklakot

    In the morning today you will be taken to Simikot airport to board chartered helicopter flight to Hilsa, a small settlement in the north-western corner of Nepal, bordering Tibet Autoomous Region. As the helicopter will take five travellers in one time, the chartered helicopter will bring the group member to Hilsa in quickest possible time. Once all group members have arrived at Hilsa, the travellers will cross Nepal China border through a swignging bridge. After crossing the custom checkpoits, arrive at the hotel in Burang (Taklakot). Check in at the hotel and rest here for the night.

  • Day 05 : Free day for acclimatization

    From the point of keeping good health and to avoid issues of high altitude sickess, Burang is a very important station in your Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. Make good use of your free time at Taklakot today and stay well by walking around in the town or market outside, keep yourself hyderated and stay patient even if you find yourself cought by high altitude sickess. The high altitude symptoms are very common and acclimatization is the best answer to it. You should cotact the tour or one of his team members if you are unwell and require medical assistace. Today night stay will be at Burang.

  • Day 06 : Visit Rakshas Tal & Lake Mansarovar

    Get up with positive energy, have your breakfast and get ready for the much awaited road travel experience in Tibetan territory. Today's drive will take you to the holy Lake Mansarovar through the beautiful Tibetan highway. Enroute make a stop at Rakshas Tal (Lake of The Demons). Gorgeous lake Rakshas Tal with stunning view of the holy Mount Kailash is also kown as the lake of negativity or Ravana's Tal. Spend some time here to capture the beauty of the place in your camera before you contiue your Kailash Mansarovar Yatra to reach the holy Lake Masarovar. On reaching Mansarovar Lake, make yourself comfortable in the guesthouse. Later visit Lake Mansarovar to take holy bath and perform puja rituals. The guide will organise parikrama of the holy lake in a local vehicle before coming back to the guesthouse for rest.

    Lake Mansarovar visit at night : In the night time one may decide to go near the lake and sit under the stars. The lake looks magical during the night and especially under the moon light.

  • Day 07 : Mt. Kailash (First Day Trek) 12 kms

    In the morning drive from Lake Masarovar to Darchen (The town in the foothills of Mount Kailash) and then proceed to Yam Dwar which is situated about 6 kms from Darchen. Start 12 kms trekking to Dhirapukh from here. The trek on day 1 from Yam Dwar to Dhirapukh is almost flat but the lack of oxygen makes it tiring and challenging. In about three to five hours the group will reach Dhirapukh where they will stay in guesthouse close to the North Face of holy Mount Kailash. The mesmerizing view of the North Face of Kailash Mount will leave you speechless. Spend time here relaxing, doing some meditation or prayers or one may also choose to take another 3 kms trek towards the mount for 'touching the feet of the Lord' (Charan Sparsh). The Charan Sparsha trek is short but takes guts and mental strength to complete. It is advisable to go only in a group and if possible take oe of the guides or sherpas alongwith for this trek. Night stay will be in the guesthouse at Dhirapukh.

  • Day 08 : Mt. Kailash (Second Day Trek) 22 kms

    Get up early today to witness the magical and most awaited moment of your trip. As you come out of your room you will see the devotees gathering outside and waiting for the sunrise for holy darshan of 'Golden Kailash'. As the sun rises from the East, it showers its first light on the top of holy Mount and then with the light slowly the mount starts chaging its color. The changing colours of the holy Mount Kailash, the loud and positive sound of chanting of devotees calling the Lord and many other magical things happenig near you will bring you time to remember and cherish for the rest of your life. After this, have your light breakfast, drink some hot tea, fill up your flask with hot water and bbe ready for the second day trek to Zuthulpukh via Dolma La Pass (The highest poit of your trek) and Gauri Kund. This day is going to be the most challenging part of your entire journey as you will cross through some of the most difficult treks with rocky path and steep ascend near the Dolma La. After completing the trek the group will reach Zuthulpukh for night hault.

  • Day 09 : Back to Darchen (Third Day Trek) 08 kms, Drive to Burang

    After breakfast start your third day trek to reach Darchen. On reaching Darchen meet with the other group members who did not go for trekkig or came back after the first day trek from Dhirapukh. From Darchen drive back to Burang. Stay at hotel while you wait for your return journey to Nepal.

  • Day 10 : Fly to Nepalgunj ex Simikot

    In the morning drive to Nepal-China border and after quick immigration checking cross the border to enter Hilsa in Nepal. From Hilsa helicopter will take the group members to Simikot. If time permits and the onward flights to Nepalgunj are operational still by the time we reach Simikot, the group will depart to Kathmandu via Nepalgunj.

  • Day 11 : Fly to Kathmandu, Fly home

    Get connect with your flight back to home from Kathmandu International airport. The holy Kailash Mansarovar Yatra comes to an end as you depart from Kathmadu today.

Important Notes

  • For Indian Passport holders Chinese visa is granted by China Embassy at Delhi, India only and the Embassy usually takes 4-5 working days to grant this visa. For all other passports, the China Embassy accepts the visa application at Kathmandu only and they take usually 4-5 working days minimum for this process, including biometrics.
  • The travellers must check for the current travel guidelines and restrictions imposed by the governments and health department in the country of their travel for prevention from the spread of Covid19 virus. It is the responsibility of the traveller to follow such guidelines and keep the documents handy for thier Covid vaccination/tests etc. during travel.
