TREKKING, SPIRITUAL ADVENTURE

Humla Valley & Mount Kailash Trekking Tour

Wanting to sign up for a long trip that had lots of adventure, fun, road trips, camping, and spiritual healing? Well, this Mount Kailash and Humla Valley Trekking Tour is the perfect package that I have curated for you. On this 3-week-long tour, I will take you to explore Kailash and other surrounding sites that will not only leave you spellbound but will give you a sense of fulfillment. However, with Tibet's current road system and transportation system, Kailash Manasarovar is quite simple and accessible. This adventurous 14-day journey starts in Kathmandu with a gorgeous and challenging drive to Key Rung, crossing the Nepalese border at Rasuwagadhi. Views of the snow-capped mountains and vast Tibetan grasslands can be seen from the blacktop highways of Tibet that lead to Lake Mansarovar and Mount Kailash.

Tentative Schedule

  • Day 01 : Arrive Kathmandu (1400m)

Svāgata cha in Nepal! Today you will land in Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal—also known for its temples and exotic food—and I will pick you up from the airport and drop you at your pre-booked 5 star hotel to get you to freshen up and lie down a little to relax a bit and buckle up for the trip further.

  • Day 02 : Kathmandu Sightseeing

Kathmandu—a bowl-shaped valley in Nepal's Himalayan range. The city is well-known for its religious landmarks, including Changu Narayan and the Pashupatinath Temple. After that I will take you to the “Sleeping Vishnu” temple as well as Guheshwori Mata Temple. Once the trip is over here, I will drive you back to the hotel to prepare for tomorrow’s trip. Step out in the evening to visit Thamel market, as you will need to buy the trekking essentials to keep you safe. At night I will provide a detailed mapping of the trip so that you can acclimatize yourself accordingly.

  • Day 03 : Fly to Nepalgunj (150m)

Today all you need to do is step out and enjoy the scrumptious breakfast the hotel has arranged for you. After that I will take you to the airport to board the Nepalgunj flight, and upon deboarding I will drop you off at the hotel where you can rest for the night.

  • Day 04 : Fly to Simikot (45 mins)

Heya! Today also you are going to set out on a journey of watching the fleecy clouds and snow-capped mountains from the flight window. Today I will drive you to Nepalgunj Airport to board a flight to Simikot—a remote village in Nepal, where you can look down from your plane windows to enjoy marvelous sights like Thakura Village and the terrific Nara La Pass.

  • Day 05 : Trek to Dharapori (2300m)

The hike from Simikot to Dheraphori leads to a 3000-meter-high pass before descending and becoming more verdant. The settlement of Dharaphori is reached after four to five hours of walking. Go out and tour the village after getting some rest.

  • Day 06 : Trek Dharapori to Kermi (2670m)

You will have a three-hour walk from Dharapori to Kermi today. Before departing for Kermi, you will first have breakfast and then proceed to tour the village of Dharapori. Fields of barley, buckwheat, rice, and potatoes may be seen on the short and easy trek from Dharapori to Kermi. After arriving in Kermi, you need to unwind in the camp for a little before going to Laikyo Gompa and Lhundrup Choeling Gompa. The majority of people in this small community, Kermi, are Buddhist.

  • Day 07 : Trek Kermi to Yalbang (3020m)

An adventure-packed day for sure! Today I will take you on a trek from Kermi to Yalbang, which is going to take around 6 hours at most, and the ride might be a little bumpy. After a long walk for 2 hours, we will cross the Sali River, where enjoying a cup of tea becomes a must! While enjoying our piping hot tea at the riverbank tea shop, you can see a caravan of mules trekking to Yalbang. From here you have to walk on your own to reach the Yalbang Village.

  • Day 08 : Trek to Muchu & Tumtok Khola (3380m)

With the river singing and birds chirping, today we will trek alongside the Karnali River, trekking on our way from Yalbang to Muchu. Upon moving forward, your first stoppage will be Yangar Village, and from here the trek will become more thrilling and a bit difficult, where you will witness the rustling pine trees, with dew shining.

Moving forward on this trail, you will reach Muchu campsite, after which it takes around an hour to reach Tumkot Village, in case you want to explore more. Upon reaching Muchu, I will take you to explore the Dhungkar Choezom Monastery. This monastery is also notable for its Tibetan monk chanting, old Tibetan monastic ceremonial mask-dancing, butter carving, and sand mandalas.

  • Day 09 : Trek Tumkot to Yari (3750m)

You have to let yourself indulge in the adventure a little more with the 6-hour-long walk from Tumkot to Yari, finding your trails through the steep hikes. Now we are going to move to more desolate terrains, leaving the lush greenery of Tumkot Village. Upon reaching Yari, I will transfer you to the camping spots where you can enjoy a bonfire and barbeque and spend your evening in the lap of the mountain.

  • Day 10 : Trek to Hilsa (3720m), via Nara La Pass (4620m)

Another new day, another new adventure! In addition to ascending Mount Kailash, this day of your Humla Valley trekking tour from Simikot will require greater physical stamina as we traverse the Nara La Pass. Tibet's scenery is strikingly similar to this one. The hike is significantly harder from Tado Dhunga village. We shall enjoy a broad perspective of the Tibetan plateau from Nara La Pass. The journey to Hilsa gets challenging and steep as we cross Nara La Pass.

  • Day 11 : Drive to Burang / Taklakot (4000m)

Today is going to be a long day with lots of paperwork and a complex visa process. Once you are done enjoying your breakfast, I will take you to the Nepal-Tibet border, where you will be welcomed by the Chinese officer-cum-guide, who is going to complete the immigration process and give you the visas to enter the Chinese border.

Upon receiving your visa, I will drive you to Taklakot, Burang. Here you have to stay at camps made on the terrains before you can finally get shifted to the hotel. During this whole stay, you can explore the Taklakot market while indulging in activities like shopping, exploring, and savoring local cuisine.

  • Day 12 : Taklakot to Lake Mansarovar via Rakshas Tal

Today will be a long day with lots of exploring. After you have devoured your warm and soul-souped breakfast, I will take you on a drive to Lake Mansarover—a famous historical pilgrimage place that is important to Buddhists, Hindus, and Jainists. According to their ancient texts, these lakes and the Kailash Parvat Basin have seen the construction of excellent facilities made possible by kind donors or monarchs. At a height of 14,950 meters, Lake Rakshas, which is famous for its gold mining, encircles the lake.

  • Day 13 : Lake Mansarovar (4600m)

Holy Mansarovar is the epitome of serenity, tranquility, and unadulterated joy. After an educational excursion and a relaxing morning bath, we will go to the picturesque Tarchen (Darchen). We will visit the beautiful Chui Gompa if time permits. The sacred base camp for the well-known Holy Kailash Parikrama is Tarchen. This sacred location will be visited by a large number of pilgrims during the auspicious pilgrimage season.

  • Day 14 : Drive to Darchen, Mt. Kailash (4670m)

Today I will transport you to Darchen, which is about 40 kilometers from Mansarovar, via a 110-kilometer drive in a Jeep. Numerous neighboring sites, including Guge Kingdom, Tirthapuri Monastery, Chiu Monastery, and many more, are open to explore. Darchen, a picturesque settlement in the Mt. Kailash valley is an hour's drive away. You will be able to spend a restful night's sleep here.

  • Day 15 : Trek to Dirapuk (5210m)

Get ready for Kailash today! Yes, today I will drive you from Darchen to Yamdwar, the door to Mount Kailash. Upon reaching the Yam Dwar, we will hit the southern trek and climb further to reach the north face of Mount Kailash. It's a 12 km long trek that is exhausting, and you are going to take a break at the base camps to ease your fatigue. Also, since the elevation increases (5210 m), there will be a lack of oxygen, but I will have you covered by making oxygen supplies available. After walking for 4-5 hours more, our hiatus will be at Derapukh Gompa, which will give you a mesmerizing view of Mount Kailash.

  • Day 16 : Trek to North Face Charan Sparsh (5680m)

Huzzah! And behold the sight of Majestic Mount Kailash on this once-in-a-lifetime trek to the North Face of Mount Kailash. We will move forward to reach Charan Sparsh, to reach the abode of Lord Shiva. Today you have to walk for around 4 hours to reach the Charan Sparsh, where you can indulge yourself in the serene and divine energy of the Kailash Parvat. Once you have explored all the surrounding area, we will trek down, and our night stay will be at Derapukh Gompa’s guest house, where you can watch the skyline while enjoying the bonfire and local dance.

  • Day 17 : Trek to Zuthulphuk via Gauri Kund (5620m)

Have you been seeking more adventurous memories from this trip? Well, today is that day which will leave you exhausted, energetic, and exhilarated. Today's walk is roughly 22 km long, with the first 6-7 km of the route being rocky with sharp ascents and descents. We arrive at Dolma La's highest point (5630m). Here you will get to see the pristine and holy Gauri Kund—the abode of Gauri, lord Shiva's wife, also known for being the highest freshwater lake in the world. Now, as you slowly descend from here, the trek will become comparatively easy. At night I will take you to stay at Zuthulphuk Gompa rest house and prepare for the next day.

  • Day 18 : Trek to Darchen, Drive to Saga (4640m)

Here comes Daechen, the initial point to set out in your journey towards the Kailash Kora Pilgrimage. Today you have to trek down to Darchen and hit the road to drive towards Saga!

dga' bsu (དགའ་བསུ) to Saga! With quality accommodation and rich cultural heritage, I will let you explore the localities for a short while. After that I will drive you to see Saga Castle ruins, Saga Shrine, Hizenkuniichinomiya Yodohime Shrine, Acorn Village, and the museum. Enjoy your stay here to the fullest!

  • Day 19 : Saga To Kyirong (2900m)

Today I will drive you from Saga to Kyirong—explore lush landscapes, spiritual monasteries, and cultural traditions in this tranquil city. Translated as “The village of happiness,” Kyirong offers you a serene atmosphere and soothing climate where you can enjoy a blend of Tibetan and Nepalese culture. Today we will stay at a hotel and rest.

  • Day 20 : Kyirong to Kathmandu via Rasuwagadhi (1400m)

And here comes the day when you have to head back from Kyirong to Kathmandu! I will arrange your trip back to Kathmandu, transcending the Tibetan border, and drive you to Kathmandu via roads. Hitting the roads might be a little tiring as you will pass through rugged terrains and valleys, which might leave you exhausted. Once you reach Kathmandu, make sure to give yourself some hot showers and good sleep before you step out to explore the evening market.

  • Day 21 : Leave Kathmandu

And here comes the day to bid adieu to Nepal with the endless memories from this Mount Kailash and Humla Valley Trekking Tour.
